The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
