Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it was expected for questions to be asked about his position after another heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, representing the club's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this match so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Failings and Player Response
Slot highlighted known failings from his squad in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a phase of this nature with outcomes like these.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to the top, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
