President Trump Invites Families of Shot Military Personnel to the Presidential Residence

Former President Trump announced on Sunday that he has invited the relatives of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the presidential home.

He added that he conversed with her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.

Background on the Tragic Event

Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.

Vigils across West Virginia have been held in their honor.

Presidential Call

The commander-in-chief stated he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump addressed journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”

Community Response

Community members assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to honor Beckstrom.

Both the soldiers had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s government program to support policing efforts in Washington DC.

Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom

“Sarah was the individual that instructors desired. She behaved with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that inspired those around her,” Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s former high school, stated to the press. “She was kind, caring and always ready to support those in need.”

Service details for Sarah are in the process of planning.

Legal Actions and Government Revisions

Officials have charged a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of homicide and charges of violent assault while armed.

The event led the administration to halt asylum processing and halt providing entry permits to possessors of Afghan passports.

Status of the Airman

The airman, a native of Martinsburg, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the AP.

He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey said on a news program.

The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed the program that she also intended to speak to the family.

Memory of Sarah Beckstrom

Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a MP with distinction, according to the state guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had bravery,” the governor told the audience at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
